* Drew Barrymore’s Hairstylist Deems Bloggers “Incompetent.”
Posted on January 17th, 2009 by Joyce Tota. Filed under Beauty.
Oh the backlash. Ever since Drew Barrymore showed up to the Golden Globes with a hairstyle that rivaled Tippi Hedren’s post-attack ‘do in The Birds, blogs have been ringing with adverse commentary on the Marilyn-inspired hairstyle. The Totam first reported on Barrymore’s Globes’ style here.

The man responsible for the askew updo is Italian hairstylist Giannandrea, who has worked in fashion for “20 years” and has responded to the negative blogger feedback that has descended on his work. “I try not to read blogs because there are a lot of mean people out there who are very incompetent in beauty and styling,” he said. “When I read some bloggers, they are clueless. Some people debated if it was too much for the Golden Globes, but I thought it is the Golden Globes and you can have a little more fun with the hair.”
Oh the cattiness. Yes, most bloggers do not have degrees from the Vidal Sassoon Academy, but then again, it’s hair. Anyone who has picked up a hairbrush or a blowdryer is an authority in our book. One of the good-humored aspects about these award shows is bestowing these frivolous “Best and Worst” accolades. Sometimes it’s a hit, sometimes it’s a miss, twenty years in fashion be damned. Giannandrea may have been having more fun with Drew’s hair, but bloggers are having their fun too (clueless and incompetent ones included).

* The Golden Globes Fashion Runway: Lanvin & Dior!
Posted on January 11th, 2009 by Joyce Tota. Filed under Fashion, Spotted.
The Golden Globes are such a great way to bring in the new year and it is obvious from the red carpet that no one in Hollywood gorged themselves over the holidays.
A couple of our favorite dresses:
Maggie Gyllenhaal is wearing spots, à la Lanvin. The dress appears to be a little big, both in size and fit, but we love that it is Lanvin and also a fun departure from all the other usual glittery frocks. Maggie gave Ryan Seacrest a humbling interview on the red carpet about Dark Knight co-star Heath Ledger and also was a presenter for Best Actress in a Miniseries (Laura Linney picked this one up for John Adams).
Drew Barrymore looked lovely in a fluttery blue-grey Dior gown by John Galliano. Her hair however is another matter, which was teased and pouffed into a haywire bob.
